Damon Perry, A New Mexico man, explained to investigators that had been watching the TV show The Walking Dead when he saw his friend change into a zombie, then beat him to death.
The 23-year-old man of Prewitt, New Mexico, has been charged with the murder of Christopher Paquin, also 23, by kicking, punching and stabbing him with sharp objects as other objects such as a guitar and a microwave oven.
It has been reported that the two men had been binge watching several episodes of the popular show which revolves entirely around a zombie apocalypse. Police were called to the apartment where they were watching the program in a small town of Grants, about 80 miles west of Albuquerque, after reports of an intoxicated man wielding a knife in pursuit of a woman.
Luckily for the woman, two maintenance men pinned Perry firmly to the ground until officers arrived. After a search the police discovered the body of Paquin who was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene. Perry admitted to the police that he had consumed large quantities of alcohol before his friend turned into a zombie.
Moses Marquez of the police department in Grants said: “It is one of the weirdest and most gruesome homicides he had known.” Marquez later confirmed that Perry was being held at Cibola County detention centre on $800,000 cash only bond, his lawyer could not be reached for comment and the preliminary hearing in the case is set for 3rd November.
